MPS District sent out a robo call to families today, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 with the following message: Due to recent events in our community, some of our students are planning to participate in the community protests today. We support our students’ right to free speech, and we are doing everything we can to keep students and staff members safe during this time.
The funeral for Jamar Clark will be held at Shiloh Temple tomorrow, November 25th at noon. Afterward, we will be using the Davis Service Center (across the street from the funeral services) to provide a safe gathering space. Counselors will be available to support students and their families.
Northeast Chamber of Commerce Honors Edison Teacher

MPS Releases Calendar Survey Results

Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) has released a report on the next proposed 3-year calendar that includes results from the survey MPS sent out in October.  From parents to educators to community members, over 4,300 persons participated in the survey.  Questions on the survey addressed topics such as starting before Labor Day (must participants said yes), shortening Winter Break (most said no), shortening Spring Break (no again), and ending in mid-June (most dislike this).  To view the report, click here.

School Board Accepting Application for Student Rep, $5k Scholarship Included

The Minneapolis School Board is seeking a Student Board Representative for a 1 year term (January 2016-January 2017).  Any 10th or 11th grader may apply.  The student representative will gain a wide array of leadership, communication and political skills through this unique opportunity that can strengthen future college applications and/or resumes. A scholarship of $5,000 will be provided to the student in recognition of their dedication and commitment to MPS.  To learn more, including to view the application, click here.
