Dress Policy
 
The Thomas Edison High School community expects to present themselves in a manner that is respectful and appropriate for school. Clothing worn in school should not offend, cause embarrassment, or present a health hazard. Students who do not comply with this policy will be subject to disciplinary action.
 
 A. Pants and Skirts
  • All shorts and pants must be worn at waist level; sagging pants and shorts are not allowed.
  • Pant legs must be worn at the same length.
  • Length of shorts and skirts must be mid-length of your thigh or longer. (This is also the expectation if you're wearing leggings underneath your shorts and skirts.)
B. Head Apparel
  • Head apparel such as hats, caps, hoods, visors, headbands, bandanas, hair wraps, wave caps, etc., are not to be worn in the building; they must be kept in your locker.
  • Head apparel for religious purposes is approved upon request by parents/guardians.
C. Coats, Jackets, and Shirts
  • Coats and jackets are not to be worn in the building; they must be kept in your locker.
  • Shirts and tops such as muscle shirts, tube tops, halter tops, midriff tops (revealing the stomach/belly button), low cut tops, and tops with spaghetti straps are not to be worn in the building.
D. Shoes
  • Shoes must be worn at all times for health and safety concerns.
  • House slippers are not to be worn in the building.
E. Other
  • Clothing that includes words or pictures, which are sexually and physically obscene, vulgar, abusive, discriminatory or promotes violence is not to be worn in the building.
  • Clothing that advertises alcohol, drugs, chemicals, tobacco products, etc., is not to be worn in the building.
  • Clothing that promotes threat and hate groups, as well as gang-related clothing, colors, accessories and symbols are not to be worn in the building.
  • Administration has final determination of what is appropriate clothing for school.
