October is HPV Month

You could be one less life affected by cervical cancer and genital warts! Cervical cancer is caused by certain types of a virus called HPV.  Other types of HPV can cause genital warts.  A person with HPV often has no signs or symptoms so many people don’t know they have it.  For most women, the virus goes away on its own but for some it develops into cervical cancer.  74% of the 6 million cases reported of genital HPV yearly are of girl’s ages 15-24 years old.  Gardasil is the only vaccine that may help guard against diseases that are caused by HPV.  You can get Gardasil at your clinic or at the Edison School Based Clinic in room 107.  It is given as 3 injections over 6 months.  To obtain more information about this you can contact Edison School Based Clinic at 612-668-1321.
