I want the students in my class to enjoy reading.  I want my students to be as independent as possible to read words, books, labels, signs, etc. Along with having the skills to be independent readers, I want the students to advocate for themselves and ask for help with their reading as needed.
This reading class works hard to improve basic reading skills. The students improve their reading skills by practicing decoding, comprehension, basic grammar skills, writing activities, and oral reading practice, using a corrective reading program called Language.

I work hard to help students make an awareness of how they use their reading skills outside of the classroom. Please take the time to practice reading with your student at home. You could read a favorite book, newspaper, magazine, recipe, price tags when you go shopping, menus, common signs in the community,  words on the microwave or any other personal interests.
