Open House Welcomes Families from the Class of 2019
Last night, Edison welcomed over 54 families from 9 different schools to our open house. The evening started out with Jerica Gillespie, guest speaker for the Achieve Minneapolis luncheon and Liam Davis-Temple, member of student council, emceeing the open house kick-off. Student performances took place in Edison’s newly renovated auditorium. Band, Choir, Yung Madness Steppers and Beacon's Break dancers had everyone cheering.

Edison’s open house appealed to all interests.  Families met teachers and were excited to learn more about Edison’s curriculum and academic offerings. Future Tommies and their families had great discussions with Edison’s student panels (held in English, Hmong, Spanish, and Somali).  Student leaders from athletics, clubs/activities along with several other college preparatory programs shared information about their programs. Robotics' team was in the house and had their robot shooting a basketball for anyone to catch. Band students were demonstrating different instruments. Cheerleaders shared their school spirit with families as they walked in the door.

The evening ended with a raffle in which three students walked away with prizes: Sydney Nelson from Marcy Open, Mykenzie Cole and Ella Haugesag from Northeast Middle School. All 8th graders received a FREE Tommie t-shirt designed by Edison graphic design student, Najeedah Johnson.

We thank everyone for attending Edison’s open house and making this an evening to remember. Families shared that they found this open house to be very informative and were impressed with Edison’s students and teachers. “I feel so much more informed and not as afraid of my son starting 9th grade. The kids were all great, warm and friendly!” a quote from a parent.

Missed us at the open house? Come join us at our English/Spanish Casual Conversations on Wednesday, January 14 at 5:30 p.m. and Future Tommie Night on Friday, January 23rd at 4 p.m.
