Mia Johnson - 9th and 12th Grade Dean

My name is Mia Johnson and I currently serve as the dean of students for grades 9th and 12th. I am privileged to be a part of the Tommie family! I truly enjoy working along with the collective strengths of our dean team because it’s a really special one that both Eryn Warne and Umar Rashid have assembled.

I am a Minnesota native who attended Minneapolis North High and graduated in the class of 2004. I hold a bachelor's degree in communication from Michigan State University as well as a master's degree in education from the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

The reason I became a dean of students:

I am a lifelong educator who has always been an advocate for student development. Being student centered, I am committed to helping each student be their very best! I also love inspiring and empowering young people to want to succeed in life.

Why do I work at Edison?

I serve at Edison because I get the opportunity to work with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds, Here at Edison, we strive for an inclusive learning environment where each student is given the opportunity to participate in the school’s programs and receive the essential resources to learn, in the continuous effort to achieve his or her true potential. Furthermore, I love working here because we foster a strong sense of family amongst our staff and students, our school, and our community!

Away from “deaning!”

I appreciate spending time with my daughter Mikayla. I also LOVE basketball –I am retired now, but I coach during the summer. On my down time, I enjoy shopping (I am a true ssssneaker head), traveling, reading/writing poetry, and watching basketball.
