What is a school psychologist?

I help students succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally.  I do this by working with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students.  Specifically at Edison, I:

  • collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to find effective solutions for learning and behavior problems
  • assist in developing support systems for students and families to reduce risk factors that interfere with students' success at school and build resiliency

  • assess students' cognitive, functional, and social/emotional skills as well as their learning environment to determine eligibility for special education services
  • help students, families, and the school community cope with and manage crises such as death, illness, or community trauma
  • promote tolerance, understanding, and appreciation of diversity within the school setting

I am trained in psychology and education.  I completed my graduate training at the University of Minnesota and earned my Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Educational Psychology.  I have been working at Edison since 2005.
