The Edison Robotics Team returned from Regional Competition this past weekend. Can a robot shoot baskets? Yes the Edison TERTOLA robot did scoring (Placeholder)baskets. In terms of baskets completed for the contest we scored 28th out 63 Competitors. Can a robot Talk? The Edison robot can. Thomas Edison created the first talking machine, the phonograph. We were proud to walk in his steps having the only talking robot at the contest. It generated lots of interest and also challenged the contest to expand it's boundaries. We think our robot is the smartest and we are getting "geareed-up for the new challenges that the evolving robotics field will bring. How does it work? The robot is powered by four independent rare earth DC motors which turn Mecanum wheels. The robot can be programmed to move in any direction and turn by varying the speed and direction of each rotation of the wheel using LabView software. LabView was a huge challenge, but working with the Graco Engineers we did it. It can operate in either a autonomous mode or via joysticks over a Wi-Fi network. We successfully scored points at the outset of several games in autonomous mode. Enjoy the slideshow below. Visit our Main Edison Robotics Site for information about the engineers and the team.
