The instructional units that are covered in this class will include hair care, skin care, nail care, salon business, Minnesota laws and rules, and safety and sanitation.  The teaching methods will include lectures, discussions, and demonstrations which will be followed by assigned activities, quizzes, written exams, workshops and practical examinations that will apply key knowledge and skills.  Students will be required to read pertinent literature in their textbooks and complete written assignments.  In addition the students will provide services to assigned clients.  In the event that a student is NOT assigned to a client, dispensary or front desk duties will be expected.  The student will also be expected to perform cosmetology related service on a mannequin, to complete the practical portion of the class.  Although we encourage co-student assistance when performing services, students are responsible for carrying out the service on their assigned client from start to finish.  All students are responsible for maintaining technical notes on all chemical services.  The technical notes must be written on the chemical cards issued for the chemical service, signed by an instructor and turned in to the cosmetology receptionist (student), located at the reception desk upon completion of each service.
