TRIO Upward Bound at Edison

My name is James Cooper and I am the new TRIO Upward Bound (University of Minnesota) College Access Advisor at Edison High School. I graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato in 2015 with two bachelors’ degree in Management and Marketing. Being an immigrant and first generation college student myself has led me to my role today with TRIO Upward Bound. I was originally born in Liberia, West Africa, and came to the United States at the age of nine with my family. If it wasn’t for the positive advisors and teachers I had in high school and college, I don’t know where I would be today.

William Shakespeare once said, “We know what we are, but know not what we may be.” Along with the mission of TRIO Upward Bound, it is my goal to motivate and inspire students to achieve academic success through advising and outreach.

I joined the TRIO Upward Bound team last week, and I am very excited to work with the Edison community--staff, faculty, and students alike! I plan to visit Edison High School each week on Wednesday from 11:00am-1:30pm for the remainder of the school year. I will typically be either in the TRIO Upward Bound office (room 203) , or the Cafeteria.

Please reach out if you have any comments, concerns, or questions regarding the TRIO Upward Bound program, current students, or my position.

I look forward to working with you this year!
