While many of their classmates were sleeping in on the first day of Winter Break, Edison Outdoor Club members stepped outside to learn the essentials of fire building and fire safety. The event began with volunteers from Wilderness Inquiry explaining the safety and environmental concerns around building fires, including: how to pick proper fire wood as well as where and when to have -- or not have -- a fire. The Outdoor Club members competed against one another to see who could first build a fire. In the end, both groups succeeded and celebrated with hot chocolate and smores. The event was attended by seven students, including Nai, Lai, Chue, Maris, Jamin, Gabe, and Connor. Mr. Baum and Ms. Hoemke were also present. In January, the Outdoor Club will be cross-country skiing at Theo Wirth Park. Event details will be announced in early January. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Mr. Baum in Room 113 or Mr. Strand in Room 210.
