Shanda Copeland, Autism Lead

Shanda Copeland

I am one of four autism teachers here at Edison. This my 13th year teaching at Edison! Before this I was an special education aide in the Minneapolis Citywide Autism Program for 5 years and an aide in the Early Childhood Special Education program for 4 years while attending weekend college at Augsburg to achieve my goal of becoming an autism teacher. I have 4 sons of my own, which lends much experience in dealing with many typical challenges of dealing with teenagers.
I have high expectations for the students full inclusion in school wide events and opportunities.  I encourage parents to be as highly involved in your students high school education as well. So please know you are always welcomed and wanted at school activities because your continued involvement is tantamount to your student's success in school and in life!

I want you to always feel comfortable with what is going on in school and I strive to be very approachable. I can be reached for questions and/or concerns that arise at the number below, so please feel free to contact me anytime and I will strive to get back to you within 24-48 hours or sooner if possible. I am pretty quick with responding by email throughout the day, but you may also call and if I have not given you my cell phone number, feel free to ask. I will respond to calls and text questions up until 6 p.m.
