About Ms. Rodriguez

I love teaching 9th grade! The '20-'21 school year is my 5th year with the awesome 9th-grade team (and my 13th year teaching)! The transition to high school is so meaningful; I feel passionate about supporting students on their journey toward graduation. I believe strongly in cultivating student leadership and promoting student voice (both in the classroom and schoolwide)--even when distance learning. Every student has an imporant role to play in our school community, and I want all students to feel loved and valued at Edison.
I graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2007 with a Journalism and Studio Art double major with a minor in French Studies, and a 2018 graduate of Concordia University--Portland with a Master's of Education degree. She is a 2007 Teach For America Corps member, and served in south Texas teaching Journalism and also taught 7th grade English for 5 years in Austin, TX. This is Rodriguez's 6th year at Minneapolis Public Schools, where she's had experience teaching AVID 10, English 11/12, and 9th grade Language and Literature. I'm very active with our Teacher's Union, and have served as a building steward for 3 years, advocating for teachers and students. I also serve on Minnesota Commission on National and Community Service. I love balancing the focus on the small things (daily interactions) with the big things (making an impact in our community).
My hobbies include anything artistic, meeting new people (I miss this now!), and reading. I've been married to my husband, Horacio, for 8 years and have two sons, Mateo (5) and Paz (1) (see photos).
