ACT Information & Registration - click here

To register to take the ACT Test, students must sign up online through  Students that qualify for free or reduced priced lunch qualify for up to two (2) fee waivers for the test.  -- They can take the ACT test twice for no cost.

Important notes about signing up for the ACT:

  • You will need to create an account with ACT and sign up for the test.  Remember your login information.  You will use it in the future to view your scores, ordering materials, and signing up for future tests.
  • Be sure to sign up for the ACT + Writing Test.  -- Colleges require the writing section also.
  • Make sure you select Edison High School when you are completing the ACT registration.  Edison's ACT School Code is 241610.
  • You can select up to 4 colleges to send this ACT score to for free.
    • You must select these colleges or universities before you take the test.
    • Sending test scores from ACT after you take the test will cost about $12 per test for each school.
    • I suggest you only send ACT scores to 4-year colleges and universities.  Community colleges and technical schools use a different test - The Accuplacer Test.
    • Some of the colleges and universities that require the scores to be sent directly from ACT:  All University of Wisconsin schools, All University of California schools, Winona State University, and St. Thomas University.  Many other colleges and universities will accept a school report copy of the ACT scores from the high school when mailed with the transcript.
    • If you are planning on applying to any of the University of Minnesota schools, I recommend that you designate a copy of your ACT to be sent to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities because application materials can be downloaded from the U of M Twin Cities to the other campuses.
  • When filling out the interest inventory section of the ACT registration, take the questions seriously.  The test will provide recommendations for careers based on your answers to the questions and your test results.
  • It will take about 45 minutes to complete the interest inventory and register for the test.  When you have completed everything, there will be a screen stating you now need to pay for the test.  If you qualify for a fee waiver (receive free or reduced lunch), you will enter a code from a form distributed from the College and Career Center at Edison - room 219.  The form needs to be filled out AND turned back in to the CCC Lab.  Sometimes it is very important that we know which fee waiver number you used for the ACT when applying for colleges and universities.  Please make sure you fill out the form and turn it in.
  • Practice for the ACT Test.
    • Login to your Naviance account.  Under "Colleges" click "Prep Me."  This is an excellent piece of ACT practice software with full length practice tests and diagnostic software to help you focus your time studying.  They will assist with planning how fast you will need to answer the questions to complete the test sections in the time allowed.
    • Take a test prep class.
    • Buy or check out an ACT prep book from the CCC Lab in room 219 or the public library & practice for the test.
    • Admission Possible and Upward Bound help students prepare for the test.
    • There is no penalty for guessing the answers to questions on the test. -- You should answer all of the questions on the test, even if you have to guess.
