We are writing to share with you that Edison High School will temporarily move to distance learning beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22, 2021 through Tuesday, October 5, 2021. The shift to distance learning is due to a significant number of our students being exposed to others who have tested positive for COVID-19. Students will return to in-person classes at the school on October 6.

In the meantime, Wednesday, September 22, will be considered a transition day during which teachers will post online assignments. Active online instruction will begin on Thursday, September 23 for all students.

We are working with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minneapolis Health Department to manage the situation and minimize spread of the infection. Please note that while the number of COVID-positive students was not large, exposure is broad due to students moving from class to class at the high school level.

All individuals who had a high- or low-risk exposure will be contacted directly. If your student is not contacted, they are not considered a close contact of those who tested positive.

Important Information for Online Learning from September 22- October 5

  • Teachers will spend the first day of the transition to distance learning posting lessons online. Active instruction will begin on Thursday.

  • Homecoming, currently scheduled for October 1, will be rescheduled.

  • All athletic practices, games, in school clubs and activities are cancelled during this time.

  • Community Education will send additional information about classes scheduled to begin later this month.

  • Students who need to pick something up at school that they may have forgotten can do so on Wednesday.

  • Students who need assistance with their devices can call 612.668.0088.

Edison’s school building will remain open during this time and school-based clinics and mental health support will be available for students. COVID-19 test kits also will be available at Edison. Unfortunately, school meals will not be available during this time. Little Kitchen Food Shelf, One Minnesota, and  Rescue Now Services may be of assistance to families in need.
