Seventh Annual Back to School Celebrations Breaks Records

Big E 2013-14

Edison's Open House had a record breaking attendance of 430 students. Over 800 people walked through our doors to see the many great offerings at Edison and personally meet our teachers and staff. Our open house started with the unveiling of our new signature mural designed by Edison's art teacher, Seexeeng Lee. This signature art mural reflects the foundation of Edison: our students/families, academics, programs, staff, community, and alumni.

Many staff and students volunteered at both our open house and northeast community school BBQ. Edison students Nancy Chang and Liam Temple-Davis did a wonderful job of leading tours during our open house. Marina Her did a great job of greeting new students/families and Michael Chang and Bruce Her helped distribute t-shirts to our incoming 9th graders. The success of our open house could not have happened without the support of our volunteers!

The Northeast Schools/Community BBQ had over 2,000 people attend. Have you heard about all the fun family events that took place at this event? Watch the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP83p4Jt4Uk. You can also see pictures of this event at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Public-Education-Northeast/126885940739408

Everyone enjoyed the delicious food that was donated and provided by local restaurants and community members.  There were approximately 200 volunteers: 2nd Precinct, Associate Superintendent’s Office, Edison staff, students, Edison's sports teams, Edison Boosters (parent group), Alumni and staff from the District Office, Marcy, Northeast Middle School, Pillsbury, Sheridan, Waite Park schools. Members from the community, Mpls Public School Board, Holland Board and Park Commissioner also volunteered along with many others including our State Representative, Diane Loeffler and State Senator Kari Dziedzic, and Ward 1 City Councilman, Kevin Reich.

Many fun family events took place at this event including the big "E" art work and picture, photo booth, and bike blender smoothies featured by our Green Council students. The fire truck from Station #15 on 27th and Johnson showed up along with the Mpls Food truck. This was an event that everyone will remember.

Thank you Sponsors! We appreciate everything you do for our northeast schools.
