Phase II-B of the Edison Green Campus’ sustainability re-envisioning continues with the launch of construction on the east side of the school’s athletic complex. This area, which was formerly a small parking lot, will soon be transformed into a welcoming community plaza and entryway to the newly renovated athletic field. The new space will contain a new decorative fence with entry gate, a 73kW solar array canopy and a greenhouse and raised garden bed, as well as a structure that can house concessions, restrooms and mechanicals.
This project, which is being funded by a partnership between the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization (MWMO) and the Holland Neighborhood Improvement Association (HNIA), extends the sustainable landscaping and infrastructure work that began with the renovated Edison parking lot in 2013 and continued with the new green football field earlier this summer. The renovations, which incorporate solar technology, water management infrastructure and sustainable landscaping, will further expand opportunities for hands-on environmental education for Edison students while creating a welcoming space for the school and the surrounding community.
