Career and Technical Education courses utilize a hands-on style of learning that promotes both the attainment of technical skills and understanding of how academic concepts are used in the workplace. These programs can help you prepare for a career. At Edison, the career and technical education programs are designed to be the first part of a program of study that continues for two years or more beyond high school at a state technical or community college, or at a four year college or university. Students may earn college credits during high school where agreements are in place or where the course is taught through a concurrent enrollment arrangement. Courses are developed collaboratively by high school and college faculty. Many of our career and technical education programs include opportunities for you to continue your learning in the community through service or employment. Business Enterprise The mission of the Business Enterprise is to lay a foundation of business, finance, entrepreneurship and computer skills for students to build upon throughout their working lives. The second goal is to help students transition from a high school setting to post-secondary two-year and four-year educational programs. The final goal of the Business Enterprise is to motivate students towards meaningful life long career paths. We will expose students to career opportunities in banking, finance, sports marketing, computer technology, stock brokerage and various other business fields. We will also show students what they need to do in order to prepare themselves for future success in these career areas. Personal Care and Therapeutic Services As part of a college preparatory curriculum, a personal care and therapeutic services pathway integrates core skills in all subject areas such as business, chemistry, art, and health sciences. Students earn college credits towards licensure in this program. Students complete special research projects exploring the science behind the beauty, wellness, and pharmaceutical industries. AP versions of the science courses offer college credit by test. The Personal Care and Therapeutic Services curriculum is state accredited, with a challenging course sequence. Credited hours towards licensure in the Cosmetology Industry are obtained through hands-on clinical skills and design, and development of a strong business foundation. Technology and Multi Media Students have many opportunities in Graphic Communications, Desktop Publishing, Student Newspaper, Yearbook Production Class, Digital Photography (including a new portrait studio), and Web Graphics and Animation. Information Technology (IT) courses offer technology skills for students interested in ANY of tomorrow’s college majors or careers. Gamers and social-networking butterflies welcome!
