Our student-led effort to build world peace, Soccer 4 Senegal aka Ballons d'Amitié ended this week with a huge success!  Along with our French student partners at Northeast Middle School, we raised a total of $643.27.  We sent soccer balls, pumps, soccer jerseys, shorts and socks to children at Cité Radio, in Senegal, West Africa in a resounding message of friendship, health, fun, and happiness.

Students at Edison and Northeast partnered with local non-profit, Project Safety Nets, for this exciting new, student-run project.  Project Safety Nets has been working with local Minneapolis businesses and individuals to work with communities in Senegal for health, education and sustainability since 2008.  Through this partnership, students learned important lessons about dreaming big, planning and executing a dynamic project, and building effective teamwork.  We are already thinking about how to build on our success for next year.  Mille Mercis!  We could not have done it without you!

On Tuesday April 19th, three Edison students (Caliyah Rush, Elijah Smith and Josiah Oakley) spoke about their French service project, Ballons d'Amitié AKA Soccer4Senegal with the North Minneapolis chapter of Rotary International.  The presentation was well received!  The Rotarians were pleased to see students exhibiting an interest in service on the international stage.
