Approximately 400 families walked through Edison's doors on the night of our open house and over 2,000 attended the 8th annual NE Community/School BBQ. Students and their families had the opportunity to meet teachers, staff, sign-up for athletics and clubs/activities. Students were excited reunite with friends that they haven't seen over the summer. Once again, the organizers and sponsors made the 8th annual NE Community/School BBQ an event that everyone will remember!  In addition to the best tasting grilling you can ask for, there were several groups and activities that continue to make this event very popular. New this year was Playworks. It was a great night for all.

Special guests such as US Senator Al Franken,  State Senator Kari Dziedzic (Edison Alum), Ward 1 City Council Member Kevin Reich (Edison Alum), Ward 3 City Council Member Jacob Frey, County Sherriff  Rich Stanek (Edison Alum),  Park Commissioner Liz Wielinski  were in attendance this year.  Minneapolis Public Schools School Board members:  Jenny Arneson (Edison Alum), Kim Ellison, Rebecca Gagnon and Richard Mammen, Board Liaison Mitch Trockman and the MPS District Leadership team: Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson, Associate Superintendents: Michael Thomas and Steve Flisk, CEO Michael Goar, Deputy Chief Operations Officer Mark Bollinger, Chief Academic Officer Susanne Griffin,  and Office of Black Male-Achievement Michael Walker along with  Principals: Carla Steinbach-Edison, Cindy Mueller-Waite Park, Donna Andrews-Marcy, Ben Perry-NEMS, Jonathan Luknic, Pillsbury, Al Pitt-Sheridan, Ginger Krantz-Webster and the entire Office of Student, Family and Community Engagement Department took part in welcoming families to a new school year.

Edison High School thanks all of the sponsors and volunteers for supporting the 8th Annual NE Community/School BBQ. This event makes it possible for all MPS Northeast schools and families to kick-off the new school year as a community.
