Edison Student Testifies to the MN State House Representatives Legacy Funding Finance Committee to Appropriate $300,000 in Funding for Wilderness Inquiry

On Monday, February 27, 2017, Edison Senior Kayla Cross went before the Minnesota State House of Representatives Legacy Funding Finance Committee to testify the support of the HF1098 bill to appropriate $300,000 in funding for Wilderness Inquiry, to bring outdoor opportunities to more young people in Minnesota.

Kayla is the Co-President of Edison’s Outdoor Club which is mostly funded through our MPS community partner, Wilderness Inquiry.  “My outdoor experiences have inspired me to learn how to preserve and protect nature to ensure other kids will be able to experience what I have in nature.”, stated Cross. Kayla was the main speaker in support of this bill, and was passionate, poised, and well-received by the committee.

Kayla will be attending Augsburg College and has been accepted in the Honor's Program.  She will be pursuing a double major in environmental studies and political science.  Kayla is one of ten students that received Augsburg’s President’s Scholarship which is reserved for students with exceptional academic ability and strong evidence of leadership.  Kayla was also awarded “Beat the Odds Scholarship” from the Children's Defense Fund of Minnesota.
