Story Corps, a program that encourages people to capture their personal and community history by interviewing leaders in their homes and neighborhood, launched "The Great Listen" this past Thanksgiving. Sharon (Sam) Nygren worked with three students, James Hogan, Areteese Morgan-Clark and Melvin Gregory to identify leaders in their north Minneapolis community and at Edison to ask them what made them leaders and what advice they could share with them to become leaders. The list of leaders they chose was long, but they successfully interviewed and recorded their work with 5 leaders.
There is a display case in the hallway across from the collaborative of the story boards created from their interviews. The students increased their communication skills and learned so much from their interviews.
