Family Involvement Plan 2022-23

Parents play an important role in the academic success of our students. We want to partner with all of our parents/guardians to help all our students in achieving their academic goals.

2023 Family Engagement Plan

Title I Shared Commitments document (Family School Compact)

Here are several ways to be involved:

  • Attend parent teacher conferences
    • Tuesday, October 19, 2022
    • Thursday, February 21, 2023 
    • Mid-quarter progress reports will be available on parent portal
    • Report cards are mailed home at the end of each quarter
      • Quarter 1: Ends November 4, 2021
      • Quarter 2: Ends January 27, 2022
      • Quarter 3: Ends March 31, 2022
      • Quarter 4: Ends June 16, 2022
  • Attend parent/guardian meetings
  • Enroll in Connecting Parents to Educational Opportunities (CPEO)
    • Informative classes for parents. Topics include:
      • Learn how to navigate the school system
      • Communicate and partner with school staff
      • Preparing for post-secondary and college options
    • No cost to participate. Dinner and childcare are provided
    • Classes are offered in English, Spanish, and Somali
  • Join Edison’s Activity Council
    • EAC coordinates fundraisers to support Edison sports, clubs, and activities
    • Collaborate with school to increase student participation
    • Meetings are the second Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m. in room 104

  • Become a volunteer
  • Attend Edison site council meetings
    • Site council supports the mission of Edison High School and ensures the inclusive representation in decision making in, but not limited to:
      • Staff development, instructional leadership, budget, and staffing
    • Site council meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 5:00 p.m. in room 104 and on Google Meets during Distance Learning
  • Participate in various parent involvement opportunities, such as:
    • Open houses
    • Cultural school events/performances
    • Athletic games
    • Band and choir concerts
    • Theater productions

  • Keep the school informed of your updated contact information for Edison reaches out to parents via mail, email, and phone calls
    • Contact information includes address, phone number(s), email, and emergency contacts
  • Attend the State of the School and Title I meetings
  • Sign up for parent portal
    • This is a great online tool for you to have access to your student’s grades, homework assignments, attendance, transcripts, etc.

Helpful information for parents:

  • Breakfast and lunch are FREE for all students. Families must still complete the MPS Application for Educational Benefits. To request a paper application contact the main office at 612-668-1300
  • To report a student absence contact the attendance office at 612-668-1311
  • College and Career Center provides assistance with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Visit the school website or contact Nora Guerin at 612-668-1370 for more information
  • Edison welcomes parents/guardians to visit the school to check on their student’s academic progress. We strongly encourage parents/guardians to prearrange all visits and meetings in order to ensure staff availability. Classroom visits must be scheduled through student’s assistant principal and require additional clearances.
