Mr. Said Garaad, Assistant Principal

Dear Edison Community,

We excited to announce Said Garaad as Edison’s new Assistant Principal!   Please join us in welcoming him to the Edison community.

Since 2005, Mr. Garaad has served Minneapolis Public Schools as a Community Liaison Specialist and Multilingual Family Outreach Coordinator. Much of his work has been centered around educating and advocating for English Language Learners and their families and in supporting educators to build culturally responsive classrooms for EL and immigrant students. Said is an instructor for Normandale Community College’s new Somali Language and Culture courses. He has also worked with MPS’s Office of Black Male Student Achievement, supporting students with social emotional development and graduation plans.

Said holds a master’s degree in school counseling and bachelor’s degrees in business and accounting. While working toward his principal license, Said interned with Wellstone International High School and South High School, and was part of Minneapolis’s AP Builder program.

Mr. Garaad will officially come on board August 1, joining Ms. Warne and Ms. Sanguinet in planning for the 2019-20 school year.

Special thanks to our AP Selection Committee—Bridget Daly Altman, Lauren Wheeler, Alberto Teran, Daniel Nierengarten, Erika Skiba, Layla Rivera and Christine Sanguinet.
