Dear Edison Community,
I am writing today to share some key messages regarding Edison’s Budget Tie Out outcomes for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you to all who engaged in our budget priorities survey, as your feedback was critical to the decision making process.
As you may know, our district is facing a nearly $30 million dollar deficit, which has resulted in financial reductions at both the district and building levels. At Edison, we faced cuts of nearly $600,000; in addition, we were required to budget for anticipated salary and wage increases. These two challenges led to the inevitable—cuts to positions and funded accounts. All in all, Edison lost 5.4 positions for next year.
The Administrative team has worked to make financially responsible decisions based on the values of our community and the needs of our students. Nonetheless, these losses are painful for our staff, students and families because they mean we have to say goodbye to people whom we deeply value. Despite losses, we believe the strength of our systems and our exceptional staff will make it possible for Edison to continue to thrive.
