MnACC College Fair: Edison Students Take the Next Step toward College Choice

Edison students attended the MnACC College Fair on Friday, November 21st at Thomas Edison High School. There were over 40 college representatives from public and private colleges.

Nora Guerin, the AchieveMpls Career and College Center Coordinator at Thomas Edison High School, helps students be successful in planning for their post-secondary aspirations by providing the below services. This process starts in their freshman year.

Career and College Center assist students and their families with:
College and scholarship applications;
FAFSA forms;
Financial aid for college;
ACT registration;
Job and career exploration;
My Life Plan development.       

Edison students Bonsa Mohamed '16, Abdimalik Abdulahi '16, Jasmin Wellington '16 and Ahmed Abdi, '15 visited several college representatives at the fair including: Augsburg, University of MN, North Dakota State College of Science and Minnesota State Mankato. When asked what degrees they are seeking, the response included several fields of interest: Graphic Design, Psychology, Medicine, and Geography.

Last year, Edison seniors were awarded over 1.8 million dollars in scholarships. Students continue to collaborate with counselors and the Career and College Center to ascertain these scholarship opportunities.
