Convivio de Familias Latinas brought many families, schools and students together for an evening of fun and celebrations. This event was held on Thursday, March 19th at Thomas Edison High School.  Traditional dances, songs, games/crafts, and food were some of the highlights of the evening.  Popular activities included the cake walk, making flowers, bingo, and the piñata. Student performances were amazing and everyone was cheering and clapping!  Folk Dances from Jalisco, Mexico, and from Ecuador; student artwork, and student chorus, Dancers from Pillsbury and Sheridan dressed in traditional outfits and two of Edison's students sang solos Mariachi and Selena songs (Maria Del Carmen Ferrusquia, "Tu Solo Tu" and Gysel Zangano Alvillar "Will you still love me tomorrow").  Freddy Yungasaca Curillo kept the music "alive" by deejaying this event and everyone had a chance to dance.

Briana McPhee, Cultural Facilitator from the MPS Office of Student, Family, and Community Engagement organized this event with the Northeast Minneapolis Public Schools: Edison, Marcy, Northeast, Pillsbury, Sheridan, Waite Park, and Webster. Representatives from all of the Northeast Minneapolis Public Schools along with school board members Jenny Arneson and Kim Ellison joined in the celebration.

A special thank you goes out to students and families for sharing their evening with us.  You are an essential part of who we are in the Minneapolis Public Schools.
