On Friday, September 2, 2016, the City of Minneapolis - A Resolution Of The Mayor & City Council honored Edison High School Women's 2016 Varsity Track Team and 2016 Alumnus, James Swofford, a member of the Edison varsity team for six years.
Whereas, they were 2014 and 2016 Class A State Champions as a team; and
Whereas, Chauntel Fleming, Jada Lewis, Jia Lewis and Linda Senaphank took 1st Place in the State in 2016 in the 4/100m relay; and
Whereas, in 2014 Jia Lewis came within 3/10th's of a second of the fastest 100m time in State history; and
Whereas, the Edison Women's Track Team were Academic Gold Award winners as a team with an average team GPA of 3.75!!
Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor & the City Council of the City of Minneapolis, on behalf of Minneapolis, hereby honor the outstanding accomplishments of the Edison High School Women's Track Team.
Whereas, James Swofford has been a member of the Edison varsity team for six years...
Whereas, Swofford has served with distinction as the #1 pitcher in the State in 2016...
Whereas, Swofford's 2016 ERA was 1.24...
Whereas, he dominated in the batting box with a .465 batting average..
Now, Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor & the City Council of the City of Minneapolis, on behalf of Minneapolis, hereby honor the outstanding athletic accomplishments of James Swofford. Passed, September 2, 2016! Minneapolis Historians may read about this Edison grad 100's of years from now as this resolution is a permanent City of Minneapolis record!
