Liz Guimont, Senior Director of Education and Programs, had wonderful things to say about Edison's voyager students visit to General Mills
"Another fantastic Junior Achievement Job Shadow event took place on Thursday, April 23, 2015. A special thanks to David Hall, Donna Svendsen and volunteers at The General Mills Headquarters! Seniors at Edison High School got a rare look into this successful company. We learned all about the rich history of General Mills, predating both the City of Minneapolis and State of Minnesota. We got a glimpse at the business plan that has kept them relevant and successful for close to 150 years. Our group settled into the famous Betty Crocker kitchen area where the students worked together in teams to create their own mixed snack considering two target markets; teenagers & healthy backpackers. Once the snack was created they had to prepare a beauty bowl, product name and advertising presentation. The students were very creative with their product names, slogans and even a catchy jingle! Thank you to Shirley Poelstra and her wonderfully talented group of students as well as David Hall & Donna Svendsen for this inspirational look into General Mills.
Fun Fact- At one point in history Betty Crocker was the 2nd most famous woman in America. She got up to 4 marriage proposal letters a day…AND SHE ISN’T EVEN A REAL PERSON!"
