Edison Spanish Debate Team
Last week, your Edison Tommies participated in the first Spanish Debate League Tournament for 2018, which was held at Roosevelt High School and organized by the Minnesota Urban Debate League. Debating the topic of compulsory English education, several Edison students took home awards.
Mariela Villanueva Rosas and Marifer Villanueva Rosas earned an 8th place team award an extremely competitive Avanzada (advanced) division! Rosario Bustamante Baylon and Ximena Castillo Perez earned an 11th place team award, and also both earned speaker awards for finishing in the top half placement of the entries. Speaker awards are given to students based on their individual performance in debates - it takes a lot of skill to earn one of these awards! Coach Marni Ginther has been working hard with your students, and it shows!
Your Tommies next tournament is on May 2nd at Highland Park.
