Dear students and families,
I am thrilled to be teaching Chemistry and IB DP Biology Year 1 at Edison in room 228! I received both my Bachelors of Science in Biology and Masters in Science Education from Iowa State University and have 9 years of teaching experience.
I love teaching science because it gives us a unique, valuable way of looking at the world. Through the lens of science, students can not only see the beauty of the world around them but can learn to seek evidence for all assertions and to discriminate against competing claims. As a science teacher at Edison, my hope is that my students see the value of asking questions, being creative, collaborating, and thinking critically by studying and doing science. Even if a student has no intention of going into a career in science, I hope they can learn and utilize these skills which are applicable to any career path and arguably enriching to their lives.
When I’m not teaching, I enjoy cooking and doing outdoor activities with my family, such as hiking, cycling, and snowshoeing.
I’m looking forward to working together this school year!
