Edison High School seniors, Kayla Cross and Kenneth Walton both won the 2017 Minnesota Children’s Defense Fund “Beat the Odds Scholarship.” Each year, through a competitive review process, Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota selects five of the most deserving Twin Cities-area high school students for a Beat the Odds scholarship to be put toward college expenses. This year's recipients will each receive $5,000.
Ms. Cross and Mr. Walton are two of five students to win the BTO Scholarship out of the almost 200 students who applied from the Twin Cities area.
The other students who won are from Henry, South, and North High Schools (all within Minneapolis Public Schools).
The Beat the Odds® scholarship program honors outstanding high school students who have overcome tremendous adversity in life to achieve academic excellence, demonstrate leadership in their communities and aspire to attend college.
