Edison in Fall

It has been one week since we shifted to temporary Distance Learning at Edison, and we wanted to reach out to you about a few things. First and foremost, we miss having you in the building, and we are so sorry that circumstances made it necessary for us to move to Distance Learning for a little while. We are thankful for your patience, resilience, care, and most of all, understanding.

During this temporary period of Distance Learning, students should expect:

  • All classes to meet online, following our regular bell schedule. Engaging in online classes means you will not fall behind on your journey toward graduation;

  • The opportunity to use Advisory time for online school appointments such as: academic support with your teachers and school advocates; college and career readiness support with the CCC and School Counselors; and social emotional support with Social Workers and the Mental Health Collaborative.

  • The opportunity to stop by the school from 7:45AM-4:30PM to pick up needed materials or to visit the School Based Clinic (by appointment).

  • Participate in Athletics if you meet the criteria (shared with student Athletes on September 24th).

  • Participate in Beacons and other after school activities that have temporarily shifted to an online platform.

  • Transition back to school with an asynchronous learning day on Tuesday, October 5th (check your Google Classrooms!).

We are so excited about a safe return to school on Wednesday, October 6th. Here are some things to know about coming back safely.

  • We have set up a FREE COVID testing clinic in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) for this Friday, 10/1 in the Edison Gym Lobby from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. If you’re under 18 years old, you must have a parent/guardian with you. (English) (Hmong - Coming soon) (Oromo - Coming Soon) (Somali - Coming Soon) (Spanish - Coming Soon)

  • We will host a FREE COVID vaccination clinic in conjunction with several community partners, MPS, Black Nurses ROC, Minneapolis Health Department, and our own Minneapolis School Based Clinic. First dose will be administered on Monday, 10/4 in the Edison Gym Lobby from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Appointments for the second dose will be on Monday, 10/25 Please see Covid vaccination clinic flyer for more details: (English) (Hmong) (Somali) (Spanish)

  • Please see Google Form to register for the 10/5 vaccination clinic (English form) (Spanish form - coming soon) (Somali form - coming soon)

  • We strongly encourage students to get vaccinated to help with one more line of defense to keep us all safe and healthy - and to help slow the chance of us having to move back into Distance Learning again.

  • While you were out, the building was deeply cleaned and our PPE supplies restocked.

  • We are working on new systems to keep our students and staff safely distanced during lunches and between classes when we come back together, beginning next Wednesday, 10/6.

  • We will continue to enforce masking (cover your mouth and nose!), frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and physical distancing.

  • We have tentatively rescheduled Homecoming festivities for the week of October 11th to 15th. Details to follow.

  • We are working with MPS and Athletics to safely bring student athletes back to practice and play under the same protocols in place for athletics since last fall. If you have a student athlete, please be sure to connect with their coach regarding eligibility, safety and any possible practices, games/matches, or other activities.

Lastly, we really want to send you encouragement to keep your hopes up and keep focused on putting your best self forward during this next week. We know this is not easy and is not the best way for you to learn and be in community with one another. Please reach out to your teachers, to your Social Worker, to your Administrator! We are here to support you during this time (and always).

We are so incredibly grateful and proud of each and every one of you in how you continue to push forward. We cannot wait to see you again!

Our best,

Eryn Warne, Principal

Christine Sanguinet, Assistant Principal

Said Garaad, Assistant Principal
