Volunteer at Edison

For the 20-21 school year, all individual volunteer activities in MPS schools will be on hold while students are in Distance Learning. In the interest of student safety and data privacy, volunteers cannot participate in lessons or have direct unsupervised contact with minor students via email, phone, video, or other means.  We will begin to phase volunteers physically back into schools once it is safe to do so.  Please visit this page for regular updates.

Here are some of our partners who are seeking volunteer support at this time:

  • MPS Adult Education - has opportunities for volunteers to provide virtual tutoring support to adult English Language Learner (ELL) students.  For more info, contact: charlene.vang@mpls.k12.mn.us.
  • The Sheridan Story needs help packing food for our community.
  • The Food Group In response to an unprecedented demand for food, The Food Group is now open for groups of up to 14 volunteers to serve the community. Shifts are Monday through Friday, 9-11 am and 1-3 pm, along with a 4-6 pm shift on Tuesday and Thursdays.   Individuals can sign-up here, Groups of up to 14 volunteers can sign up by contacting: djohnson@thefoodgroupmn.org.
  • Reading Partners volunteers provide literacy tutoring to MPS elementary students.  Serve as little as one hour a week.  Extensive training provided.  Tutors will work with students virtually until classes resume in-person.
  • Literacy Minnesota maintains a list of one-time and ongoing literacy related volunteer opportunities throughout the state.  For more information, contact: krynda@literacymn.org.
