Voyager Leadership officers - Ser Vang, Genessa Page, and Ismael Mendez-Perez attended the Northeast Chamber breakfast at Jax's restaurant with members of the Northeast Chamber of Commerce, Superintendent Bernadeia Johnson, Black Male Achievement Director, Matt Walker, and Principal Carla Steinbach. This panel shared the new strategies and goals for the year and talked about the challenges we face as a district. Principal Carla Steinbach shared a few highlights about the great new developments at Edison High School; academic growth, renovations to the Pete Guzy athletic field and theater, Edison’s Girls’ track team placing 1st at state, Junior Achievement students winning regionals and competing in nationals (Washington D.C.) this summer and in 2012, and new program offerings. Northeast chamber members and businesses asked how they can support Edison’s school initiatives and build stronger partnerships. Edison’s Career and Technology Department currently has business partnerships with Junior Achievement, Achieve Minneapolis, Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Chamber, Target, AT&T, and McGladrey that give students an opportunity to shadow and work with a mentor.
