Dear Edison students and families,

We are so excited to welcome our new and returning students to the 2019-20 school year at Thomas Edison High School!  Please take some time to review this back to school newsletter—it includes important dates and information for all.

First Day Late Start for 10^th-12^th Graders

In order to welcome our incoming 9^th graders to Edison, the start time for 10^th-12^th graders will be 10am on Tuesday, September 3^rd.  9^th graders should arrive to start promptly at 8:15 on that day. 

Edison Construction and Transportation Updates

After some significant construction at Edison over the summer, the crews are putting finishing touches on the new front entry, upgraded kitchen and additional restrooms.  The school will be ready to open for the August 29^th Open House.

We anticipate that work on Monroe Street will continue, with major work beginning September 3^rd.

During the approximately three weeks of street work, we anticipate that Metro buses will be rerouted to 22^nd Avenue along Jackson Park. Parking will be restricted around Edison, and Monroe Street will likely be inaccessible for a time.  

Edison School Improvement Strategies

Our school improvement plan calls us to pursue increases in our graduation rate, student attendance and engagement, and in ACT scores.  To achieve these goals, we will:

• strengthen core instruction through professional collaboration;
• build Social Emotional Learning curriculum and practices;
• recognize and challenge the biases in ourselves and our system that contribute to inequitable results for our students.
