Wrestling Shines at Sectionals
Monday, February 26, 2018 11:40 AM

Hey Tommies, please congratulate the Edison Wrestling team’s accomplishments this year in the sectional tournament!

Region Highlights

Consuelo Nava at 106: Consuelo came from behind in points beat out the Cooper wrestler. She was able to catch him off a blocked takedown for the pin. With this win she was able to place 6th and be possibly the first female wrestler to medal in region 5AA.

Torin Skoglund at 126: Torin had just 10 matches going into the region tournament after suffering a near career ending concussion. Despite not wrestling since mid-December he was able to battle back and ended up winning 3rd place. He had the opportunity for a true second match and the chance to go to the state tournament. He gave a valiant effort but came up short. This was a very impressive showing considering he missed most of the season with an injury.

Randry Mugisha 170: Randry had the toughest bracket in the tournament, losing the first round match. Still he showed his resolve fighting off his back to win the next match and also besting last year's state entrant by a point in a close match. He took home the 4th place medal.

The whole team did well and worked very hard in their matches. I am very proud of their efforts this year. Other region participants include: Catalina Yang, Ford Brueggeman, Bennet Krenz, Fernando Lorenzo, Giovanni Green, Eddy Ndaiyikengurukiye, and our 8th grader from Marcy; Jack Hewitt-Perry.
